About

The Department of Ceramics provides students with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary ceramic materials and helps develop creative and research skills.

Composition and materials handling in-depth courses teach both traditional and experimental technologies. The Department offers to master such basic ceramic skills as wheel throwing, modelling, plaster mold casting and underglaze and overglaze painting. Students learn about different ceramic materials, glazes and firing techniques. Study process includes tasks for creation of applied items, as well as conceptual pieces.

Students and the teaching staff are actively involved in symposiums.

About

Master's studies in the Ceramics department are based on in-depth research of creative processes, knowledge of ceramic value, quality and possibilities. Ceramics department students also actively participate in exhibitions, symposiums thus creating their own individual style.

In specialty subjects, students gain an insight into the symbiosis of ceramics with architecture and the environment. Figurative composition introduces the complexity of forms. In addition to specific projects, there is also the opportunity to develop your skills in highly conceptual and contextual tasks. The understanding of contemporary ceramics is complemented by up to date ceramic's technologies, 3D and porcelain painting. Art and material study courses are complemented by related theory courses that analyse and understand the processes of art in different contexts.

The master's thesis is created as a creative work in the visual plastic arts. This work also includes a part of the theoretical justification, according to the subfield and thematic field chosen by the student.
