About

Digital media and interactive technologies, modern perception of life, and generation of fresh ideas in collaboration with the analog and traditional materials create a basis for the search for new forms of creative expression in the real and virtual environment.

Students of the Department acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in digital photography and video montage, printing, three-dimensional modeling, media composition, and technologies that allow the creation of a virtual environment, as well as some traditional graphics techniques, such screen printing, monotype and intaglio print.

During the study process, students of the Visual Communication Department develop their own contemporary worldview and critical thinking. They become professional audiovisual media artists.

Existing and former students of the Department fit into the local and international contemporary art scene. Our former students have repeatedly represent Latvia in major art events such as the Venice Biennale, Manifesta, the Sao Paulo Biennale, and the Sydney Biennale.

About

Studies in the Master's program of the Visual Communication department offer a platform for developing professional creative activity in the digital media environment. The studies support an independent research approach in performing creative tasks, learning various techniques, new materials and techniques in the creation of audio-visual compositions in practice. The practical and theoretical study courses form the necessary symbiosis for the student's in-depth professional understanding of visual expression forms and creation methods. The studies develop contextual knowledge, promoting the understanding of the contemporary art phenomena and the visual language of these phenomena.

The master's thesis is created as a creative work in audio-visual art. At the same time, the work also has a part of theoretical justification, according to the department and thematic field chosen by the student, without excluding the possibility of fitting in another art discipline.
