WELCOME TO THE ART ACADEMY OF LATVIA'S EXHIBITION “GRADUATE SHOW 2024”

From 14th June to 14th July, the Art Academy of Latvia will exhibit the artworks of this year's graduates at the Art Academy of Latvia buildings,- 4 Kronvalds Boulevard and 13 Kalpaka Boulevard and other locations in the centre of Riga.

As in other parts of the world, the Art Academy of Latvia's graduate exhibition "Graduate Days 2024" has become an important city-wide art event. Now in its sixth year, the aim of the exhibition is to introduce Riga residents and visitors to the work of graduates from various specialisations of the Academy - from painting and sculpture to audiovisual installations, promoting dialogue with the wider public on current issues in art and culture. The exhibition will offer visitors the opportunity to see the artworks of more then 180 Academy graduates, offering a fresh and unrestricted perspective of young artists on today's world and its challenges.

It is noteworthy that this year the management of the Academy has trusted the organisation of the exhibition entirely to the students. As Antra Priede, Vice-Rector of the Art Academy of Latvia, acknowledges: "This is a way for us to provide students with practical experience in organising major art events. We can see how the process has brought students together and fostered cooperation between graduates of different specialisations. The students are in charge of the whole organisational process - from the set design and curatorial work to organising the opening event and developing the visual identity."

The main exhibition will be displayed in two buildings of the Art Academy of Latvia: at 4 Kronvalda Boulevard (formerly the Faculty of Biology of the University of Latvia), which has now become a fully-fledged part of the Art Academy, and in the historic building at 13 Kalpaka Boulevard. The graduates' works can also be seen in several independent art spaces in Riga - DOM Gallery (115 Ģertrūdes Street), Alma Gallery (64 Tērbatas Street), Tallinas Street Quarter (10-3 Tallinas Street).

The exhibition is curated by four first-year students of the Master's programme Curatorial Studies - Ilze Celmiņa, Elīna Drāke, Iveta Gabaliņa and Agnese Kurzemniece, under the supervision of the head of department Antra Priede and producer Kitija Vasiļjeva. The team of the Art Academy of Latvia graduate exhibition includes not only the curators and the graduates themselves, but also a large group of assistants who have been working on this ambitious graduate exhibition for several months.

The LMA Graduate Days 2024 will be open to visitors from 14 June to 14 July at 4 Kronvalda Boulevard and 13 Kalpaka Boulevard from Wednesday to Saturday, 12.00 to 18.00. The exhibition is closed on 21, 22, 23 and 24 June. The exhibition is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Sundays.

The exhibition will be opened on 14 June at 18.00 in the garden of Kalpaka Boulevard 13. The event will offer the opportunity to enjoy delicious drinks from Deniss Smirnov, IBA World Bartender Championship gold medallist and “D.O.M. Bar” representative. We will have a surprise performance by Vladimir Gorshantov, a member of the contemporary dance group "SIXTH", and DJ Michael Holland will provide excellent music during the event.
