Kristaps Ancāns

Kristaps Ancans works cross media in fields of sculpture, painting, text and installation. Has studied Painting and Environmental Art at The Art Academy of Latvia, graduating in 2014 with a BA Hons degree. Has completed an MA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, graduating in 2016 with distinction. Was awarded the ‘Cecil Lewis Sculpture Scholarship’ and is a laureate of the ‘Helen Scott Lidgett Studio Award as well as nominated for "Clifford Chance and UAL Sculpture Prize (UK) and Arts Foundation Fellowship (UK) and others. Ancans' practice celebrates confusion in the relationship between human, nature and machine through an ever evolving conceptual game. Ancans artistic concept is rooted in science, sculptures and installations often contain a kinetic component. He has shown at Museum of London, PEER, Royal Academy of Arts, UKYA, Domobaal, Tate Exchange and has taken part in residencies including: Complex Topography (Setouchi Triennale Japan), Constructed (Siberia, Russia).
