Working at the Institute of Art History since 1970, director (2002–2012). / Editor in chief of the journal “Mākslas Vēsture un Teorija”. / Co-author of the multi-volume publication “Art History of Latvia”. / Lecturer (“Iconography”, “Medieval Architecture and Art in the Baltic Region”), BA, MA and PhD supervisor at the Art Academy of Latvia. / Expert in the history of art at the Latvian Council of Science.
Research interests: medieval and Baroque art in Latvia, history of art history, iconography.
Education: Art History Department of the Art Academy of Latvia (graduation diss. “Some developments in the wood carving of Kurzeme in the late 17th and early 18th centuries”, 1973), PhD programme of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (1973–1977; PhD diss. “Ventspils wood carving workshop in the 2nd half of the 17th century – early 18th century”, defended in Moscow in 1983).
