Professor Naumovs, who was the only contender for the office, received 67 out of 69 votes. Aleksejs Naumovs first was elected as Rector of the Art Academy of Latvia on 28 June 2007.
The Rector is elected by secret ballot for a five year term. For a candidate to be elected, he or she must receive more than half of all the votes casted.
